Animate CC Overview

Adobe Animate course animated logo

Adobe Animate CC is a professional design tool used to produce animation, advertising banners, and various other HTML5 web page components. It is also used to create animated video introductions and presentations. The Adobe Animate CC software is designed to work closely with other Adobe Creative Cloud packages such as Illustrator and PhotoShop to allow you to quickly and easily import and manipulate animations and graphics.

This course introduces how to create Animate CC projects including simple banner animations and short presentations. It starts with the basics of the Animate CC interface and tools and steadily moves on to the more complex features such as masking and blending and managing tweened animation. The course also places a heavy emphasis on the new features provided in Animate CC such as exporting as HTML5 web banners for adverts.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course students will understand how Animate CC works and be confident creating :

  • animated backgrounds
  • advertising banners with fading images and moving text
  • animated content for e-learning
  • websites banners
  • animated presentations

Course Requirements

To attend this Introduction to Adobe Animate CC course you should already have some experience using other Adobe products such as Photoshop or Illustrator.

Animating graphics requires that you are familiar with basic manipulation and editing of image files already. If you are unsure whether you meet these requirements, please contact us to speak to the trainer.

You should also be comfortable using either the Windows or Mac interface and be capable of basic file management.

Course Description

The courses starts with an overview of the Adobe Animate CC interface and configuring and setting up Animate CC to best suit your workflow. The course then looks at the various input and output file types, such as JPG, PNG and SVG, supported in Animate CC and how these can be used when working with other applications.

Adobe Animate CC motion editor

The course looks at each of the main Animate CC tools and how they interact with the timeline, including drawing, painting and creating shapes. This also includes the use of layers and an introduction to keyframe animation.

Adobe Animate CC also includes the motion tweening animation system. Although there is still support for shape and classic tweens, motion tweening provides an alternative to the keyframe system of animation. The course covers all these methods and the benefits gained from the flexible motion editor interface. With this and the built in motion presets, Animate CC can significantly boost productivity when creating certain types of animations.

The course introduces the concept of symbols in Animate CC which are used as the primary object containers for animation and ActionScript reference. With these properly organised in the library they provide a method of reusing assets with minimal overhead. A detailed breakdown is given on the differences and uses of graphic and movieclip symbols while there is also a look at button symbols to create interaction.

With the tools in Animate CC being primarily vector based, there is also good look at importing and working with bitmap graphics. Although a lot of bitmap work will be done in packages such as Adobe's Photoshop, there is also support within Animate CC for the optimisation and conversion of bitmap graphics to vectors if needed.

The course then looks at creating both rollover and animated buttons for creating interactivity. We look at the built-in Actionscript 3 functions and how these can be used to control your animations. Since this is an introductory level course, the basics are covered with some code demonstrated on how to control the playhead through Actionscript and how to link to external web pages or files.

The encoding and embedding of video and audio within Animate CC presentations is also covered. Finally, there is an in depth look at the options for publishing Animate CC content as HTML5 Canvas, WebGL or Air for Android and iOS.

Bjorn is an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in Flash Professional (now Adobe Animate CC), the industry recognised certification for Adobe products.

He has been involved in working with and training Flash since version 4 (not CS4!) when it was owned by Macromedia and used primarily as an animation tool. He has a wealth of experience developing Flash based advertising materials, elearning resources and interactive applications.

Coupled with nearly ten years of training Flash he is able to answer virtually any question you may have about the product. Having insights into both the design and development worlds, he is able to understand the capabilities of design packages such as Illustrator, Flash and Photoshop as well as develop with server side platforms such as PHP.

The trainers of our Adobe training courses are familiar with most previous versions of Adobe's Creative Cloud and therefore will be able to guide your learning no matter which version of the software you have. We try to provide course content that is generic to versions CS3 - CS6, but your trainer will showcase the features of the latest version. Currently we now demonstrate the functionality of the Creative Cloud suite.
